WPP Chief Operating Officer Andrew Scott to step down after 27 years; to remain as Senior Advisor
WPP’s Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Scott, will be stepping down from his role at the end of 2025 after a dedicated 27-year career with the company. Scott, who has been an essential figure in shaping WPP’s mergers and acquisitions strategy and global expansion since 1999, will continue to work closely with incoming CEO Cindy Rose to ensure a seamless leadership transition.
Scott’s journey at WPP began in 1999 when he joined as the Director of Corporate Development. Over the years, he has taken on various senior positions within the company, including Chief Operating Officer for Europe. In 2018, he was appointed as the global Chief Operating Officer, overseeing WPP’s country operations in key markets. His contributions were further recognized in 2023 when he was appointed to the Board of Directors.
During his tenure, Scott has played a crucial role in driving WPP’s growth and development. His leadership in mergers and acquisitions has been particularly impactful, with Scott spearheading numerous acquisitions that have contributed significantly to WPP’s current standing in the industry. Recent acquisitions such as Satalia and InfoSum have solidified WPP’s position in artificial intelligence, data, and technology.
In addition to his role in acquisitions, Scott has also been instrumental in strategic divestitures. Notable transactions include the sale of a majority stake in Kantar to Bain Capital and the subsequent sale of FGS Global to KKR. Mark Read, the outgoing CEO of WPP, acknowledged Scott’s immense contributions, stating that few individuals have had a more profound impact on shaping WPP’s success over the past three decades.
Expressing his sentiments on his retirement, Scott shared, “After 27 years at WPP, and during this period of transition for the company, I believe it is the right time for me to make this change.” He expressed confidence in Cindy Rose’s leadership abilities, emphasizing their longstanding professional relationship and collaborations on the WPP Board. Scott also expressed gratitude to Mark Read and the broader team for their support throughout his tenure.
Scott’s retirement marks the end of an era at WPP, with his departure leaving a lasting impact on the company’s trajectory. As he prepares to transition into a Senior Advisor role, Scott’s expertise and insights will continue to benefit WPP’s leadership team and overall strategic direction. His departure, though significant, symbolizes a new chapter for WPP under the guidance of incoming CEO Cindy Rose and the continued evolution of the company’s operations and growth trajectory.
