Investigation into manipulation case involving Shakib’s shares to be released on May 20

The court has set a date of May 20 for the submission of the investigation report in a case involving former Bangladesh national cricket team captain and ex-lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan and 14 others. The case, which alleges share market manipulation, fraud, and money laundering, was filed on June 17, 2025, by ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to present the probe report as initially scheduled. Alongside Shakib Al Hasan, the other individuals implicated in the case include Abul Khair, Deputy Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives, Abul Khair’s wife Qazi Sadia Hasan, Abul Kalam Matbor, Kanika Afroz, Mohammad Bashar, Sajed Matbor, Aleya Begum, Qazi Fuad Hasan, Qazi Farid Hasan, Shirin Akter, Zaved A Matin, Jahed Kamal, Humayun Kabir, and Tanvir Nizam.

The case statement details how the accused reportedly inflated the prices of specific shares in the stock market through dubious means. This involved engaging in illegal serial transactions through their beneficiary owner (BO) accounts, partaking in fraudulent trading, gambling, and speculative activities. These actions allegedly led to the misappropriation of Tk 256.97 crore, described by investigators as “proceeds of crime.”

The investigation report, originally expected at a previous date, will now be submitted on May 20. The delay in presenting the report highlights the complexities and thoroughness required in uncovering the truth behind the allegations put forth in the case. The legal proceedings surrounding this case are of significant importance, given the high-profile nature of some of the individuals involved.

As the court eagerly anticipates the submission of the investigation report, the allegations of share market manipulation, fraud, and money laundering hang over the accused individuals. The intricate web of illegal activities, as outlined in the case statement, sheds light on the lengths some may go to for financial gain. The misappropriated funds, totaling Tk 256.97 crore, underscore the gravity of the situation and the impact of such actions on the financial system.

Overall, the upcoming submission of the investigation report on May 20 will mark a crucial milestone in this case, potentially revealing further details and insights into the alleged wrongdoings of the accused individuals. As the legal proceedings progress, the truth behind the accusations of share market manipulation, fraud, and money laundering will hopefully come to light, allowing justice to prevail.
