DOJ issues subpoenas to Villars as part of SEC complaint investigation
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that subpoenas have been issued to the Villar family following a complaint from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) accusing them of market manipulation, insider trading, and deceptive disclosures. DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez confirmed that the Villars, including Manuel Villar Jr., Cynthia Villar, and other directors of Villar Land, were named respondents in the case.
The SEC’s complaint, filed in January, alleged that Villar Land, formerly known as Golden MV Holdings Inc., violated the Securities Regulation Code by disseminating false or misleading information and engaging in activities that defrauded investors. While not all respondents have received subpoenas yet, Martinez stated that the case will progress to a preliminary investigation to determine the validity of the SEC’s claims.
Martinez emphasized that all respondents will have the opportunity to present their defenses during the proceedings. Villar Land and its directors expressed readiness to cooperate with authorities and defend themselves against the allegations. In a statement, they stated their confidence in an impartial review of the case, asserting that they did not violate any laws.
Manuel Villar Jr. reaffirmed the company’s commitment to upholding high standards of corporate governance and pledged full cooperation with the ongoing legal process. He denied engaging in any illicit practices to deceive customers or investors for personal gain. The Villar family’s stance remains one of cooperation and adherence to legal proceedings, refraining from further comments on the matter during the ongoing preliminary investigation.
The case against the Villar family underscores the importance of regulatory compliance and transparency in corporate operations. As the DOJ evaluates the SEC’s allegations, the respondents maintain their innocence and look forward to presenting their side of the story in the upcoming legal proceedings. All parties involved are committed to a fair and objective assessment of the claims to reach a resolution based on the merits of the case.
