Saga CEO Chris Forgy Goes on Medical Leave
Saga Communications President and CEO Chris Forgy has taken a temporary medical leave of absence, as announced in an SEC filing by the company. The leave requires an indefinite period of recovery, during which Forgy will not be actively carrying out his duties. However, the company has stated that they anticipate him being available for consultation on significant matters as needed during his recovery.
In Forgy’s absence, the Board has designated Wayne Leland, the Chief Operating Officer, and Samuel D. Bush, the Chief Financial Officer, to assist with Forgy’s responsibilities until he returns from his medical leave. This transitional period is aimed at ensuring the smooth operation and continuity of the company’s affairs in Forgy’s absence.
Chris Forgy has been in his role as President and CEO of Saga Communications since November 2022. He assumed these positions following the untimely passing of Ed Christian, the company’s founder and CEO, in August 2022 at the age of 77. Christian’s death came after a brief illness, leaving a void in leadership at Saga Communications. Forgy first joined Saga in 1995 and served as the Director of Sales for the company’s Columbus, OH cluster until 2006.
After leaving Saga in 2006 to work as a general manager for Radio One in Cleveland and Wilks Broadcasting in Columbus, Forgy returned to Saga in 2011 as the President and General Manager of its Columbus stations. In 2018, he was promoted to Senior VP of Operations, showcasing his long-standing commitment and contribution to the company’s growth and success over the years.
The company has expressed its confidence in Wayne Leland and Samuel D. Bush’s ability to step into their new roles and manage the day-to-day operations of Saga Communications in Forgy’s absence. This strategic decision aims to ensure that the company continues to operate smoothly and efficiently during this period of transition.
Saga Communications has not provided a concrete timeline for Forgy’s return from his medical leave of absence. However, they have assured stakeholders that he will remain in consultation capacity for important matters requiring his input throughout his recovery. This approach demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting its leadership team and maintaining stability in the face of unexpected challenges.
