What is driving the surge in Robinhood (HOOD) stock today

The stock of financial services company Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD) saw a significant increase of 6.8% in morning trading following a recent drop in stock price due to disappointing fourth-quarter earnings. The company’s fourth-quarter revenue of $1.28 billion missed analyst expectations, largely due to a 38% decrease in revenue from cryptocurrency transactions. However, investors seemed to overlook this crypto-related weakness and focused on other areas of the business that demonstrated strength, leading to the stock rebounding.

Despite the recent volatility of Robinhood’s shares, with 58 movements greater than 5% over the past year, the market response to today’s increase suggests that investors view the news as significant but not impactful enough to drastically alter their perception of the company. Just one day prior, the stock had dropped by 8.5% following the announcement of fourth-quarter financial results that fell short of revenue forecasts, driven by a sharp decline in cryptocurrency trading activity.

While Robinhood’s overall revenue grew by 27% year-over-year to $1.28 billion, it still fell below analysts’ estimates, who were expecting closer to $1.34 billion. The main contributor to this revenue shortfall was the substantial 38% decrease in revenue generated from crypto transactions, totaling $221 million for the quarter. This decline was attributed to reduced trading volumes in the cryptocurrency market. Although the company exceeded earnings per share expectations at $0.66, investors seemed more concerned about the revenue miss and the slowdown in the crypto business, a significant area of focus for the trading platform.

Since the beginning of the year, Robinhood’s stock has dropped by 34% and is currently trading at $76.00 per share, representing a 50.1% decrease from its 52-week high of $152.46 in October 2025. Investors who had purchased $1,000 worth of Robinhood shares during the IPO in July 2021 would now be looking at an investment worth $2,183.
