Stock market loses 3000 points over 9 days, Nifty drops to 25500; future predictions.

Equity benchmark indices have experienced significant volatility throughout February, driven by key events such as the India-US trade deal, the Union Budget 2026, and corporate earnings. The roller-coaster ride saw the Sensex and Nifty hit lows of 79,899 and 24,572 on February 1, only to rebound sharply to 85,872 and 26,341 on February 3 following the trade agreement. However, over the next nine trading sessions, the Sensex plummeted by over 3,000 points to 82,793 on February 13, with intense sell-offs in IT stocks driving the downturn. Similarly, the Nifty dropped to around 25,500 levels, down more than 800 points or 3.2% from its recent high.

Analysts are closely monitoring the current market conditions, with Dr. VK Vijayakumar highlighting the impact of panic selling in IT shares and advising investors to wait for stability. Vijay Bhambwani noted that retail investors unwinding leverage trades played a role in the ongoing market sell-off. Despite the recent declines, technical charts show that the Nifty remains above the 20-day moving average (20-DMA) and the 200-DMA, indicating key support levels at 25,471 and 25,293, respectively.

Technical analysts predict that the Nifty will likely trade within a range of 25,500 to 26,000 in the near term, with Om Mehra mentioning the significance of the 25,000-mark as a key support level. An increase in India VIX suggests continued volatility within this range, with the potential for two-sided movements rather than a clear direction.

Hitesh Tailor sees the 25,300 – 25,500 zone as critical support for the Nifty, with the medium-term trend remaining constructive as long as the index sustains above this level. On the other hand, resistance is expected around 25,800 – 26,000 due to supply emergence and profit booking in this zone. Similarly, the Sensex is also facing resistance at levels around 84,000 – 84,500, while finding crucial support at 82,000-82,400 according to Hitesh Tailor.

Overall, market experts caution investors to remain vigilant amid the ongoing volatility and to seek advice from certified experts before making any investment decisions. The current market conditions call for patience and strategic planning to navigate the uncertainties and capitalize on potential opportunities in the equity markets.
