The former vice president of an industrial manufacturing company based in Monmouth County is facing charges for reportedly embezzling over $1 million to kickstart a competitive business venture. Jeffrey Lawrence, aged 34 and residing in Far Hills, New Jersey, stands accused of two counts each of theft by unlawful taking and misconduct by a corporate official.

Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport expressed concern over the alleged financial misconduct, emphasizing its detrimental impact on trust in corporate leadership and the overall integrity of business transactions. Director Theresa L. Hilton of the Division of Criminal Justice echoed these sentiments, asserting that no title or position exempts individuals from accountability under the law.

According to legal chief Pablo Quiñones of the Office of Securities Fraud and Financial Crimes Prosecutions, Lawrence exploited his entrusted roles within the manufacturing company to carry out a sophisticated financial crime. It is claimed that Lawrence diverted funds through unauthorized bank accounts and misrepresented corporate records to launder the embezzled money to finance his new business endeavor effectively.

The investigation into Lawrence’s actions involved collaboration between the Division of Criminal Justice and the Office of Securities Fraud and Financial Crimes Prosecutions, with the support of federal agents from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Assistant Attorney General A. Brendan Stewart is overseeing the legal proceedings related to the case.
