Cole Caufield’s two goals secure Canadiens’ victory against Sabres

Cole Caufield was the star of the show as he scored twice to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center on Saturday night. This victory marked the Canadiens’ third straight win, with Caufield netting his 31st and 32nd goals of the season in the third period to secure the comeback.

Juraj Slafkovsky and Oliver Kapanen also found the back of the net for Montreal, and Jakub Dobes delivered a stellar performance with 36 saves. On the other side, Owen Power and Noah Ostlund managed to score for the Sabres, but their five-game win streak came to an end. Alex Lyon stood strong with 27 saves for Buffalo.

The scoring action started in the first period with Slafkovsky notching a power-play goal to give the Canadiens the lead. The game was tied in the second period when Power struck with a slap shot during a delayed penalty situation. The Sabres took the lead with a power-play goal from Ostlund in the last minutes of the second period.

In the final period, Caufield showed his talent by scoring two crucial goals for the Canadiens. He first redirected a shot by Noah Dobson to level the game at 2-2, and later secured the win with a goal of his own to push Montreal ahead. Kapanen sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds of the game to make it 4-2 for Montreal.

Next up for the Canadiens is a three-game road trip that kicks off in Minnesota on Monday. The victory showcased the resilience and firepower of Montreal’s offensive unit, anchored by the impressive performance of Caufield, who continues to shine as a key player for the Canadiens this season.
