Apple’s Annual Shareholders Meeting Scheduled for February 24

Apple is gearing up for its annual shareholders meeting, set to take place on February 24th at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Shareholders who were on record as of January 2nd of the current year will have the opportunity to participate in this virtual meeting. To join, shareholders must log in to Apple’s virtual meeting website 15 minutes before the meeting begins and enter the control number provided in the Notice of Internet Availability of Proxy Materials.

During the meeting, shareholders will have the chance to vote on the re-election of the company’s board of directors, executive compensation approval, and the ratification of Ernst & Young LLP as Apple’s public accounting firm. Additionally, there will be votes on various shareholder proposals. Notably, board chairman Art Levinson and board member Ron Sugar, who are both over the age of 75, are up for re-election. This decision goes against a company guideline that typically does not allow directors over the age of 75 to stand for re-election.

In its proxy statement, Apple explained that despite this guideline, the Board considered it beneficial for the company and its shareholders to have Levinson and Sugar stand for re-election. The Board highlighted the significant experience and expertise that both individuals bring to the table, along with their deep insight into the company’s business operations. They also emphasized the benefits of continuity in leadership positions within the Board.

Levinson’s re-nomination has caught the attention of many due to recent speculations about Apple CEO Tim Cook’s potential retirement. If Cook were to step down, Levinson’s continued role as chairman could serve as a bridge until Cook transitions into the chairman position. This strategy could prevent the need to appoint a new chairman for a short period before Cook officially takes on the role.

Overall, Apple’s annual shareholders meeting promises to be an eventful occasion where important decisions will be made concerning the company’s leadership and governance. Shareholders have a valuable opportunity to participate in the process and have their say in shaping the future of Apple.
