Andre Argenton, Dow’s Chief Science Officer, to oversee Research and Development at Trellis Group
Dow has recently made changes to the role of its Chief Sustainability Officer, Andre Argenton, by expanding his responsibilities to include the growth and innovation strategy of the company.
Effective Jan 1, his new title now includes Chief Technology Officer, a position left vacant by A.N. Sreeram upon his retirement. In his enhanced role, Argenton will oversee Dow’s global research and development organization, as well as its environmental, health, safety, and sustainability strategy. Additionally, his team will be in charge of leading Dow’s ESG reporting and governance efforts.
The newly expanded scope of his role signifies a return to familiar territory for Argenton, who previously served as the Vice President of Dow’s core research and development division before being appointed as the Chief Sustainability Officer in April 2022. He took over the position from Mary Draver, who had been with Dow since 1989 and held various leadership roles in manufacturing and EH&S departments before retiring in 2022.
Over the past decade, Dow has integrated environmental metrics into its innovation agenda, with over 90 percent of its portfolio now aligned with sustainability outcomes as per the latest ESG report released in June 2025. One of the key areas of focus for Dow’s growth is advanced recycling technology for plastics, with ambitions to recycle 3 million tons annually by 2030. To accelerate progress in this area, the company has partnered with Google’s parent company, Alphabet, to utilize artificial intelligence.
Regarding its climate goals, Dow aims to reduce emissions from its operations and electricity consumption (Scope 1 and 2) by 15 percent by 2030 compared to its 2020 baseline and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. While Dow has not disclosed the progress made towards these targets, the company plans to provide an update with its 2025 progress report in mid-2026.
Argenton’s educational background in physical chemistry shaped his career path at Dow. He initially joined Dow Brazil in 1999 and relocated to the U.S. in 2007. The announcement of his expanded role was made in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, although Dow declined to provide further comments on this matter.
