Aktis Oncology files for significantly larger IPO – Pharmaphorum
Aktis Oncology, a US biotech company based in Boston, has recently submitted IPO documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This IPO could potentially mark the first biotech listing on the Nasdaq in 2026. Initially setting a $100 million placeholder on the bid, Aktis has now increased its target to around $210 million. This increase comes as investors show heightened interest in IPOs, especially following a lackluster 2024 and 2025 in the biotech sector.
The company’s unique technology platform focuses on alpha radiation therapy, delivering highly localized radiotherapy to tumors without affecting healthy tissues nearby. This method aims to reduce off-target effects in neighboring tissues and minimize the development of treatment resistance in malignant cells. Aktis’ lead candidates, AKY-1189 and AKY-2519, target specific cancers and are currently in various stages of clinical trials in the US. These treatments are based on the use of Actinium-225, an alpha-emitting isotope, and ‘miniprotein’ radioconjugate molecules designed to target and eradicate cancer cells effectively.
Founded in 2020, Aktis has seen significant funding support over the years, including a Series A round that raised $156 million in 2022 and a Series B round that brought in $175 million in 2024. The company also secured a strategic partnership with Eli Lilly, encompassing a large upfront payment and an undisclosed equity investment. As of the end of the third quarter of 2025, Aktis reported $246 million in cash reserves, indicating a strong financial position as they move towards their IPO on the Nasdaq under the AKTS symbol.
Analysts have forecasted a potential increase in biotech IPOs for the year, attributing this to a more favorable funding environment and a rise in M&A activities. However, these predictions were made before recent geopolitical events and market uncertainties, including potential regime changes and territorial disputes. Despite these challenges, Aktis remains optimistic about the success of its IPO and the future of its innovative cancer treatments.
Overall, Aktis Oncology’s expanded IPO signifies a significant milestone for the biotech industry in 2026. With a focus on cutting-edge technology and promising candidates in clinical trials, Aktis is poised to make a substantial impact in the field of radiopharmaceuticals and cancer treatment moving forward.
