Steakhouse chain to shutter numerous locations
strategically shutting down more than 40 of its restaurants to revamp its financial situation. The decision was outlined in a financial report released by the parent company, Bloomin’ Brands earlier this year.
In October, 21 Outback Steakhouse locations were closed, with an additional 22 expected to shut down as their leases expire within the next four years. Bloomin’ Brands did not disclose a list of specific restaurants that have been or will be closed.
With 679 Outback Steakhouse locations operating in the U.S. as of Sept. 29, the closures are part of Bloomin’s effort to reverse the downward trend in Outback’s business performance. Alongside financial adjustments, the company is refocusing its efforts to enhance the overall customer experience by investing in its facilities and staff. The chain is also putting in place strategies to transform its brand to attract both new and returning customers.
Outback Steakhouse joins a growing list of restaurant chains that have taken steps to close some of their locations nationwide. Red Robin, for instance, is contemplating the closure of up to 70 locations, with a projected 10 to 15 closures by the end of 2025. Similarly, Tex-Mex chain On the Border has closed multiple establishments across the U.S. as part of its bankruptcy proceedings.
Other chains, such as Hooters and Wahlburgers, have also closed restaurants this year to focus on rebranding and enhancing their services. Hooters bid farewell to over 30 locations, while Wahlburgers decided to close 79 restaurants situated inside Hy-Vee grocery stores, reducing its total locations to 34 nationwide.
In conclusion, Outback Steakhouse’s decision to close more than 40 locations is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving its financial health and enhancing the overall customer experience. As the restaurant industry continues to face challenges, many chains are reassessing their operations and making necessary adjustments to remain competitive in a changing market environment.
