Final Opportunity to Receive up to $5100 in Compensation from $5 Million Data Breach Settlement

Today is the final opportunity for individuals to put forth their claims for payouts up to $5,100 as part of a class action lawsuit. The suit was initiated against a medical and dental billing company due to their alleged negligence in preventing a data breach.

Medusind, a globally operating billing and software corporation, has consented to pay $5 million to resolve the lawsuit without acknowledging any wrongdoing. The settlement is intended to address accusations that they failed to avert a data breach that transpired in December 2023. The breach potentially compromised sensitive personal details of consumers, including names, contact information, addresses, payment details, insurance records, medical information, and government IDs.

Litigants in the class action case contended that Medusind could have averted the breach through the implementation of reasonable cybersecurity measures. Class members are eligible for compensation based on documented or undocumented losses incurred as a result of the data breach. Those who can provide evidence of losses, such as identity theft, fraud, credit-related expenses, or communication charges, can claim reimbursements up to $5,000. On the other hand, individuals without documented losses could still receive a payment around $100. Additional payments of $100 are available to California subclass members due to local legislation, boosting possible compensation to a maximum of $5,100 for individuals with verified losses.

The deadline for claim submissions is December 29, and claimants must follow a rigorous process online. To complete their claims, individuals need a Unique ID and PIN, information found on the notice received via mail. In case of a lost or missing notice, claimants can reach out to the Settlement Administrator for assistance at 1-888-885-6687. Documentation proving losses must be ready for upload during the claim process, such as phone records, receipts, or email correspondence.

In addition to the Medusind settlement, there are two other settlements with impending deadlines. Jaguar Land Rover has agreed to compensate individuals for engine damage caused by defective turbochargers in certain Land Rover and Range Rover models. Class members have until December 29 to file their claims. AARP has also settled a lawsuit related to privacy violations and class members can expect payments between $47 and $237 for claims between September 27, 2020, and September 12, 2025. The deadline for AARP claims is December 31.

For individuals opting to submit claims by mail, documents will not be returned, so it is advised to make copies before sending them. The process involves strict adherence to deadlines, documentation requirements, and following precise claim submission guidelines to secure compensation.
