The community of Edison International, Southern California Edison, and Trio is mourning the loss of Bob Foster, a pivotal figure in energy policy and politics. Bob’s legacy as a remarkable communicator and alliance builder was crucial in navigating California through the energy challenges of the early 2000s.

Pedro J. Pizarro, the president and CEO of Edison International, highlighted Bob’s role in steering SCE through the state’s energy crisis, ensuring the company’s resilience during financial pressures. Bob’s leadership was instrumental in establishing SCE’s renewable energy programs, recognized as the most extensive in the United States, laying the groundwork for California’s sustainable energy future.

Bob’s career at SCE commenced in 1984 when he led the Sacramento office, liaising with state legislators and energy-focused agencies. Over the years, he ascended the ranks within SCE and Edison International, ultimately becoming SCE’s president in 2002. Bob was actively engaged in various civic, cultural, and governmental organizations, serving on the boards of the California Foundation on the Environment and Economy and the Long Beach Aquarium, among others. He contributed significantly to the California State University system, holding positions on its trustee and foundation boards.

After retiring as SCE president in 2005, Bob pursued public service, running for elected office. He expressed gratitude for the fulfilling years at SCE, recognizing the company’s integrity and the collaborative relationships formed with fellow employees. Bob’s dedication to community service culminated in his two-term tenure as mayor of Long Beach from 2006 to 2014, during which he assumed the role of chairman of the California Independent System Operator.

Bob Foster’s passing is deeply mourned by his wife Nancy, family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His absence will be keenly felt, but his lasting contributions to California’s clean energy landscape endure as a testament to his impactful legacy in the energy industry and public service.
