3 Class-Action Settlements Canadians Should Claim Before the Deadline

Many Canadians have the opportunity to participate in various class-action settlements currently open for claims in Canada. These settlements offer a chance to earn some easy money, with two prominent cases involving a $4.75-million drug settlement and a $500-million bread price-fixing settlement. It’s essential for eligible individuals to take advantage of these opportunities before the deadlines to claim the compensations.

One significant settlement involves Loblaw, where Canadians who purchased bread from the supermarket chain can seek compensation as part of the bread price-fixing class-action lawsuit. The Superior Court of Quebec and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice approved a $500-million settlement in response to claims of overcharging for bread due to industry-wide price-fixing practices. The claims period opens on Sept. 11, with a deadline for submission by Dec. 12, 2025. Besides Loblaw, there are ongoing class actions against other retailers like Canada Bread, Sobeys, Metro, Walmart Canada, and Giant Tiger related to this scandal.

Another case involves a $70.25-million settlement with TD Asset Management Inc., addressing allegations of paying trailing commissions (or trailer fees) to discount brokers of mutual funds. Mutual funds pool funds from various investors to invest in assets managed by fund managers. While trailing commissions are meant to compensate mutual fund dealers for providing investment advice, the lawsuit claims these fees were also paid to discount brokers like BMO InvestorLine, TD Direct Investing, RBC Direct Investing, CIBC Investor’s Edge, Scotia iTRADE, and National Bank Direct Brokerage, which were not allowed to provide such services. Interested parties have the opportunity to submit a claim form online by Dec. 20, 2025, if they believe they are eligible for compensation.

Furthermore, Canadians affected by the prescription drug Rexulti are eligible to receive compensation as part of a $4.75-million class-action settlement approved by the Superior Court of Quebec. This settlement aims to provide compensation to individuals who file valid claims, with a submission deadline set for Aug. 1, 2026. To participate in this settlement, eligible Canadians can fill out the claim form online and be represented by the Consumer Law Group.

Overall, these class-action settlements present a unique opportunity for Canadians to claim compensation for various grievances, ranging from overcharging for bread to improper payment of trailing commissions and affected individuals by a prescription drug. By submitting claims before the specified deadlines, eligible individuals can access funds allocated for these settlements, providing a chance to make easy money through these legal avenues. It is crucial for Canadians meeting the eligibility criteria to take advantage of these opportunities and claim the compensations rightfully owed to them before the deadlines expire.
