Trump urges Univision to come back to YouTube, warns that it’s ‘VERY BAD for Republicans’

President Trump is emphasizing the importance of Univision’s return to YouTube TV, and he believes that its recent removal is significantly detrimental to the GOP’s prospects in the upcoming 2026 midterms. In a recent statement posted on his Truth Social platform, the president expressed his desire to see Univision, a well-liked Hispanic network, reinstated on the impressive Google/YouTube platform. He highlighted the impact of Univision’s absence from the YouTube TV package, specifically underscoring the negative implications for Republicans during the upcoming midterm elections.

The disagreement between YouTube TV, a subsidiary of Google, and Univision, owned by TelevisaUnivision, led to the removal of Univision and its local affiliates from the streaming service. This decision came following contract disputes between the two entities. Univision was resistant to YouTube TV’s proposal to include its channel as part of a Spanish-language package instead of its basic offering. In response to this situation, TelevisaUnivision criticized Google’s actions as “tone deaf” and “egregious,” emphasizing the importance of providing the public with essential information during the government shutdown.

TelevisaUnivision conveyed its willingness to engage in productive discussions with Google and explore options that would enable Hispanic viewers to regain access to their trusted content. The network remains dedicated to advocating for its audience and ensuring that current YouTube TV subscribers are informed about alternative platforms for accessing Univision’s programming. Despite the impasse with YouTube TV, TelevisaUnivision urged viewers to continue watching its content on other platforms such as their YouTube channels or the streaming service ViX.

President Trump referenced his participation in a Univision town hall in Miami in October 2024, where he interacted with voters before his successful election victory. He highlighted his achievement of setting a record for Republican support among Hispanic voters. According to data from the Pew Research Center, Trump secured 48 percent of Hispanic voters’ support during the 2024 race, slightly lagging behind former Vice President Kamala Harris by 3 percentage points. This level of support surpassed that of former President George W. Bush, who garnered 44 percent of Hispanic voters in his 2004 reelection, making Trump the Republican nominee with the highest percentage of Hispanic support since at least 1980.

Despite the significant number of subscribers and views that TelevisaUnivision attracts on YouTube, particularly for generating ad revenue, YouTube clarified that the network represents only a small portion of overall consumption on the YouTube TV paid live TV service. YouTube remains open to negotiating a revised agreement with TelevisaUnivision that accurately reflects the network’s performance on the platform. Until then, Univision’s content will not be available on YouTube TV, and viewers are encouraged to explore other avenues for accessing their preferred programming.
