Alibaba’s stock jumps almost 9% before market open following the introduction of AI servers and collaboration with NVIDIA.

The stock market saw a slight rise in major index futures before Wednesday’s opening, with Nasdaq futures increasing by 0.27% during pre-market trading. Leading technology stocks had mixed movements, with Amazon and Intel showing gains of over 1%, while Micron Technology and Taiwan Semiconductor experienced drops of over 1%. Chinese concept stocks were on the rise together in pre-market trading, with Alibaba surging by almost 9%, GDS Holdings increasing over 7%, Kingsoft Cloud rising by nearly 4%, and JD.com and Baidu climbing over 3%. Quantum computing-related stocks also saw gains, with RGTI rising by nearly 4%, QBTS up by 3%, Quantum climbing nearly 3%, and LAES surging over 2%.

NVIDIA and OpenAI recently entered into a significant deal which has raised concerns about ‘circular financing.’ NVIDIA announced an investment of up to $100 billion in OpenAI to support the ChatGPT developer in establishing large-scale data centers equipped with NVIDIA chips. Analysts pointed out that this move has led to concerns about whether NVIDIA is influencing the market through sizable investments to maintain corporate demand for its products.

In response to the partnership between OpenAI and NVIDIA to build a 10-gigawatt data center, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that his company would lead in various computing capacities, starting from 1 gigawatt and increasing to 10 gigawatts, 100 gigawatts, and eventually reaching 1 terawatt. SAP and OpenAI also collaborated to introduce the “German version of OpenAI,” combining SAP’s enterprise application expertise with OpenAI’s AI technology to cater to the German public sector while ensuring data sovereignty.

Alibaba experienced a significant surge of nearly 9% in pre-market trading after announcing a partnership with NVIDIA on Physical AI and launching AI servers tagged as Panjiu ultra-nodes. Micron Technology saw a reversal of losses in pre-market trading following fourth-quarter results that surpassed expectations, with revenue hitting a new high for the current quarter. Applied Materials and GlobalFoundries have teamed up to advance AI and AR photonics technology and will establish a waveguide manufacturing facility in Singapore.

Lithium Americas Corporation’s shares soared by nearly 70% in pre-market trading after reports emerged that the Trump administration was considering equity stakes in the ongoing loan talks that involved the company. On the other hand, Oracle saw a slight decrease of over 1% in pre-market trading due to its decision to raise around $15 billion through a corporate bond issuance for future investments.
