Agenda and Panelists Revealed for SEC-CFTC Roundtable on Regulatory Harmonization

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have unveiled the agenda and list of panelists for their upcoming joint roundtable on September 29th to discuss regulatory harmonization efforts. This event will take place at the SEC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will be open to the public with a live webcast available on the SEC’s website.

The roundtable will kick off with opening remarks from key figures such as Paul Atkins, Chairman of the SEC, Caroline Pham, Acting Chairman of the CFTC, and SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw. The initial panel, titled “How We Got Here,” will delve into the historical dynamics between the SEC and the CFTC, featuring moderator J. Christopher Giancarlo and distinguished panelists like Kenneth Bentsen Jr., Craig Lewis, Scott Litvinoff, Walt Lukken, Scott O’Malia, and Jim Overdahl.

After a brief intermission, the discussion will shift to “Platforms,” focusing on how regulatory harmonization efforts can drive economic growth for platforms while safeguarding the interests of investors. Moderators Jill Sommers and Jamie Selway will lead this panel with experts including Shayne Coplan, Craig Donohue, Terrence Duffy, Adena Friedman, Tarek Mansour, Arjun Sethi, Jeffrey Sprecher, and Don Wilson.

Following these discussions, SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda will offer remarks before a short break. Panel 3, titled “Participants,” will explore how regulatory alignment could enhance market participant choices and decrease costs for investors. Moderators J. Christopher Giancarlo and Troy Paredes will guide this conversation, featuring panelists such as Stephen Berger, Ryan Louvar, Nick Lundgren, JB Mackenzie, Dave Olsen, Sonali Theisen, and Brad Tulley.

As the roundtable draws to a close, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce will deliver the closing remarks.
