Busha and SEC collaborate to introduce cryptocurrency course for financial executives

One year after granting provisional crypto licenses to two startups, Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in collaboration with the capital market institute (NCMI) and the Kenya School of Government (KSG) have joined forces with crypto platform Busha to introduce a specialized course on cryptocurrencies. This initiative, led and supported by the University of Cambridge, a renowned academic institution, aims to educate financial industry leaders and decision-makers on the intricacies of digital assets and their significance in enhancing financial inclusion.

The upcoming program, dubbed “Digital Assets Innovation, Industry, Regulation, and Compliance (DAIIRC),” will cater to a diverse audience, including regulatory and law enforcement professionals, executives from financial institutions, policymakers, legal and compliance experts, innovators, and leaders within the economic ecosystem. This collaboration between regulatory bodies and industry players underscores a concerted effort towards fostering mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies within institutional frameworks.

Dr. Emomotimi Agama, the SEC director general, expressed his enthusiasm for the program’s launch, stating that this partnership with the University of Cambridge and Busha underscores their commitment to empowering regulators, policymakers, and market leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage with digital assets confidently and proactively. The program blueprint, as shared by TechCabal, highlights the joint efforts of the four parties involved, signifying an ongoing collaborative process that is yet to reach its final stage.

Set to kick off on September 30, DAIIRC will be a six-week educational initiative tailored to the African context, blending online and physical engagements. The course will be led by a distinguished group of scholars, including Simon Callaghan, renowned for his work with the Cambridge Digital Assets Programme, Dr. Dee Allen from the University of the Bahamas, Dr. Patrick Conteh, CEO of Africa Fintech Network, Loretta Joseph, an advisor to the Financial Services Commission of Jamaica, Dr. Tanya McCartney, CEO of GEM Advisory, a regulatory compliance firm based in the US, and Olaoluwa Samuel-Biyi, co-founder of Busha.

Participation in the program will require a fee of $1,500, with sponsoring institutions responsible for enrolling their executives in the course. The comprehensive curriculum and expert facilitation by industry thought leaders aim to equip participants with a deep understanding of the evolving landscape of digital assets, regulations, compliance frameworks, and industry trends, fostering a conducive environment for informed decision-making and strategic leadership within the financial sector.
