Nancy Pelosi responds to Jake Tapper’s ‘Insider Trading’ accusation

Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California shut down CNN’s Jake Tapper when he broached allegations made by President Donald Trump regarding her and her husband profiting from insider trading. Pelosi staunchly denied the claims, emphasizing that she personally does not engage in stock trading, although her husband, Paul Pelosi, has been successful in this area. Throughout the years, Pelosi has been targeted with baseless accusations suggesting that her husband’s financial gains stem from confidential information acquired during her time in Congress. A recent move to restrict members of Congress, their spouses, as well as future presidents and vice presidents from trading stocks has gained traction with Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, introducing a bill that advanced in a Senate committee. Emphasizing her backing for the cessation of individual stock trading by members of Congress to instill public trust, Pelosi noted a shift from her previous stance in 2021. She reiterated that her husband’s investment decisions do not involve any inside information, attributing Trump’s behavior to deflecting attention from his own vulnerabilities. Pelosi referenced Trump’s jest about an incident involving an assault on her husband with a hammer in 2022 during his campaign.

Pelosi emphasized the importance of moving forward and declining to grant Trump more attention for his allegations. Dismissing his attempts to draw focus away from key issues, she highlighted the need for progress.
