Grand Rapids device manufacturer prepares for $105 million IPO amid increase in implant sales
A medical device manufacturer in West Michigan is planning to launch an initial public offering (IPO) to raise approximately $105 million in capital. What began is a development to support their expansion plans and invest in research and development emerged from the innovative work of Shoulder Innovations Inc., a Grand Rapids-based company. The company is based on the southwest side of Grand Rapids and is aiming to issue 5 million shares of common stock, estimated at a price range of $19 to $21 per share. The shares will be listed for trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SI.Having recently filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Shoulder Innovations stated that about $75 million from the IPO proceeds will be allocated to strengthening their commercial operations. The number of shoulder implant systems sold in the U.S. nearly tripled from 559 in the first quarter of 2023 to 1,503 in the first quarter of 2025. During this period, the company distributed close to 10,000 implant systems to various healthcare facilities in the U.S. through a network of independent distributors.The company foresees significant opportunities not only in the U.S. but also globally within the shoulder surgical care market. With reported revenues of $31.6 million in 2024, a marked increase of 64% from the previous year, Shoulder Innovations is on a growth trajectory. The revenue for the first quarter of 2025 stood at $10.1 million, compared to $7.2 million in 2023.
