Rithm Capital Announces Conflicting Strategies for Newrez, M&A, and Capital Allocation in Q2 2025
Rithm Capital Corp.’s recent 2025Q2 earnings call delved into the critical contradictions surrounding Newrez’s strategic focus, M&A and fundraising strategy, listing Newrez, and capital structure, capital allocation, and leverage. These aspects are vital for investors in determining trust and evaluating the company’s performance.
One of the highlights from the earnings call was the impressive performance of Rithm Capital’s subsidiary, Genesis, which reported record origination figures in Q2 2025. The origination numbers surged to $1.25 billion, a substantial increase from the $1.5 billion to $2 billion range seen after the acquisition in 2022. This growth can be attributed to the heightened production levels post-acquisition and the robust demand for its RTL lending products.
Additionally, the company experienced significant growth in asset management, with both Rithm Asset Management and Sculptor, the affiliate, witnessing a $3.5 billion increase in assets under management (AUM) since the previous quarter’s end. The AUM now stands at an impressive $36 billion. The influx of funds was mainly driven by real estate and ABF products, underscoring Rithm’s adeptness in sourcing assets, overseeing their origination, and managing their servicing effectively.
In terms of earnings, Rithm Capital reported a GAAP net income of $283.9 million, translating to earnings of $0.53 per diluted share, along with a commendable return on equity of 17%. These robust financial results were bolstered by strong returns across its asset management and origination businesses.
The mortgage servicing sector also witnessed notable progress, with Newrez, Rithm’s mortgage company, expanding its servicing portfolio to over $864 billion, while third-party servicing soared to $850 billion. This growth was fueled by deliberate strategic initiatives to enhance third-party servicing operations and broaden the geographical reach of service offerings.
The discussions during the earnings call underscored the importance of balancing strategic priorities, operational efficiency, and financial performance in driving sustained growth and delivering value to investors. By focusing on key areas like origination, asset management, earnings generation, and mortgage servicing, Rithm Capital Corp. is positioning itself for continued success in the dynamic landscape of financial services and capital markets.
