Mergers and Acquisitions Continue to Thrive

Mergers and acquisitions in the window and door sector have shown resilience despite facing temporary obstacles, according to Andrew Petryk, managing director and principal at Brown Gibbons Lang & Company, speaking at a National Glass Association webinar on June 26.

While M&A activity reached its peak in late 2021 and early 2022, fueled by companies achieving unprecedented profits and offering appealing valuations, sentiments took a hit in the fall of 2022 and throughout 2023 due to supply chain disruptions. However, the scenario changed in early 2024 as strategic acquirers, who had been inactive for the previous year, started showing interest in building products assets. Notable transactions in 2024 included Miter Brands’ acquisition of PGT Innovations and Quanex acquiring Tyman.

Presently, the M&A landscape has stabilized, with market uncertainties arising from tariffs and political factors leading to a lull in activity. Despite this, investor interest remains robust, and there is a surplus of capital, often referred to as “dry powder,” waiting to be invested. Petryk anticipates that a substantial number of assets will make their way into the market soon.

The easing of pandemic-related restrictions and fiscal stimulus packages have contributed to optimism in the economic environment. As companies adapt to the changing business landscape, there is an expectation that M&A activity will pick up soon. Investors are closely monitoring the situation, poised to capitalize on potential opportunities as they arise.

While uncertainties persist regarding the macroeconomic conditions, market players are focusing on identifying strategic partnerships and potential assets for acquisition. By keeping a close watch on market dynamics and staying adaptable in their strategies, businesses are preparing themselves to navigate the evolving landscape effectively.

Looking ahead, projections indicate that the M&A market will regain momentum, driven by factors such as industry consolidation, technological advancements, and shifting consumer preferences. By leveraging these opportunities and staying responsive to market trends, companies can position themselves for sustainable growth and success in the post-pandemic era.

In conclusion, the window and door sector, despite facing challenges, remains resilient, with M&A activity expected to ramp up in the coming months as investor confidence returns and market conditions stabilize.
