Humana to buy 10 Florida clinics
Humana, through its CenterWell older adult-focused primary care business, has recently announced an agreement to acquire The Villages Health, a Florida-based provider. The Villages Health has declared bankruptcy, prompting Humana to enter a stalking horse agreement to purchase their assets. This acquisition comes in light of TVH’s issues with Medicare billing practices discovered in 2024, leading to significant overpayments and potential penalties in the millions.
Despite ongoing resolution efforts with the federal government regarding the billing problems, the transaction with Humana is proceeding independently. CenterWell is set to acquire eight primary care clinics and two specialty clinics from TVH, currently serving 55,000 patients in The Villages area. With a network of over 350 clinics, CenterWell aims to enhance its healthcare offerings through this strategic acquisition.
In other news within the healthcare industry, Northwestern Medicine has successfully reduced infusion wait times by 43%. This achievement underscores the importance of operational efficiency in delivering quality patient care. UnitedHealth Group is also considering the sale of its Banmedica subsidiaries in Colombia and Chile, indicating a shift in the organization’s international operations.
Additionally, SCAN Group has acquired full ownership of myPlace Health, bolstering its integrated care delivery capabilities for older adults receiving care at home. This acquisition aligns with SCAN Group’s commitment to enhancing care delivery models for vulnerable populations. CareSource has embarked on an affiliation with Lakeland Care, a managed care provider in Wisconsin, subject to regulatory approvals.
These developments reflect the dynamic landscape of mergers and acquisitions within the healthcare sector, driven by the pursuit of operational excellence, expanded service offerings, and strategic partnerships. As organizations navigate challenges such as regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, and patient-centric care delivery, M&A activities continue to shape the future of healthcare delivery and access.
