Retail Cloud ERP and AI Shopping Assistant: SAP’s Latest Innovations at NRF 2025

SAP has recently unveiled a range of exciting new solutions and capabilities geared towards the retail industry at the National Retail Federation’s Retail’s Big Show in New York.

One of the major highlights is the launch of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, a specialized enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution designed specifically for retailers of all sizes worldwide. This marks a significant milestone in offering tailored ERP capabilities that cater to the unique needs of retail businesses.

According to Leslie Hand, Group Vice President for IDC Retail Insights, SAP’s introduction of an all-in-one platform customized for retail is a game-changer in the market. Retailers often struggle with piecemeal solutions that lack the seamless integration required for efficient retail operations. With the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, SAP aims to provide the same high-quality functionality trusted by industry leaders, now tailored to suit the scale, price, and time-to-value demands of rapidly growing organizations.

Balaji Balasubramanian, senior vice president and global head, Commerce and Consumer Industries at SAP SE, highlighted the importance of personalized experiences in today’s retail landscape. Retailers need an ERP system with retail-specific processes and capabilities that address the complexities of merchandising, store operations, and supply chains. Generic ERP systems often fall short in delivering these tailored processes, especially in catering to the needs of digital consumers.

SAP’s new platform is built on the flexibility of public cloud architecture and combines industry-specific processes, data, and AI capabilities with seamless integrations. It offers a comprehensive set of tools to streamline operations, improve customer experiences, and drive sustainable growth. The platform includes integrated management of finance, procurement, and merchandising, along with unified operational data and AI functionalities.

In addition to the ERP solution, SAP also unveiled a new loyalty management solution targeted at retailers and consumer packaged goods companies. This solution, slated for release later in 2025, aims to address the loyalty gap identified in recent research, where 80% of U.S. consumers feel undervalued by the brands they remain loyal to. By offering personalized experiences and real-time offers through integrations with various SAP solutions, the loyalty management solution aims to enhance customer loyalty through tailored journeys and targeted offers.

Key features of the loyalty solution include loyalty profiles that connect shoppers with personalized offers, multi-brand loyalty management, omnichannel promotion planning, and AI-driven shopping assistance. The AI shopping assistant, set to launch in the first half of 2025, utilizes the SAP CX AI Toolkit to enhance the online shopping experience through natural language conversations that help customers find what they need quickly and easily.

SAP’s latest innovations represent a step forward in catering to the evolving needs of the retail industry, focusing on enhancing customer experiences, driving growth, and addressing the challenges faced by retailers of all sizes.
