Chairman of TVA’s board resigns, according to SEC filing

The chair of the Tennessee Valley Authority board has stepped down, signaling a significant change in an already tumultuous year for the organization. Bill Renick, hailing from Ashland, Mississippi, tendered his resignation as a member of the TVA Board of Directors on February 24, as per a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on March 2. Renick, who joined the board in 2023, took over as Board Chair last April following President Donald Trump’s dismissal of Joe Ritch from the board, alongside Michelle Moore and Beth Geer. This move marked a considerable shakeup within the organization’s leadership, with multiple key figures departing.

Despite the notable challenges faced by the TVA, there have been efforts to rejuvenate the board with fresh faces. In January, the board welcomed four new members, including Art Graham, Mitch Graves, Jeff Hagood, and Randy Jones. They currently work alongside existing members Bobby Klein and Wade White, ensuring that the board can operate with a quorum, which necessitates a minimum of five members to conduct official business. Renick, whose term was initially set to conclude on May 18, 2027, chose to resign prematurely.

Moreover, Jeremy Fisher, the executive vice president and chief business officer of TVA, will be departing from the company effective Monday, as outlined in the filing. The departure of both Renick and Fisher suggests a period of transition and potential restructuring within the organization, as new leadership may step in to guide TVA through this challenging time.

WVLT News has sought a response from TVA regarding Renick’s resignation, highlighting the significance of this change at a critical juncture for the organization. As the TVA navigates these recent developments, it remains crucial for the board to maintain stability and continuity to address any upcoming challenges effectively. The departure of key figures such as Renick and Fisher underscores the evolving landscape within the TVA, prompting a closer look at the future direction and leadership of the organization.
