Egypt Aluminium is ranked sixth among global corporate buyers of renewable power in 2025.

Egypt Aluminum has been recognized as the sixth-largest corporate renewable power buyer globally in 2025, as reported by BloombergNEF’s 1H 2026 Corporate Energy Market Outlook released on February 19. The analysis of clean power purchase agreements signed by companies worldwide indicates a slowdown in the market with a trend towards greater concentration among key players. Egypt Aluminum’s commitment to clean energy is evident through agreements totaling over 1 GW during the year, making it the only African company in the top 10 globally.

One significant deal that contributed to this ranking was the partnership with Norway’s Scatec in March 2025 for a 1.1 GW solar project in Egypt, coupled with a 100 MW/200 MWh battery storage system. This move aligns with Egypt Aluminum’s goal to reduce the carbon footprint of its products in anticipation of the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. With Europe as a major export market for the company, transitioning to clean electricity is crucial for complying with sustainability standards.

Scatec, a key player across Africa, also emerged as one of the top global sellers of clean power in 2025, further emphasizing the continent’s increasing involvement in the energy transition. The rise of African industrial players in clean energy adoption stems from the need for reliable electricity, meeting sustainability objectives, and safeguarding access to international markets. This trend underscores the growing role of African companies in driving sustainable energy practices.

On a global scale, corporate renewable power purchase agreements amounted to 55.9 GW in 2025, marking a slight decline from the previous year’s record. Noteworthy aspects of these contracts included the incorporation of storage and hybrid solutions, accounting for 5.8 GW, and baseload-style products providing a stable power supply at 5.2 GW. Leading the market were tech giants like Meta, Amazon, and Google, showcasing their commitment to sustainable energy procurement.
