Abacus Worldwide names Tiat Jin Ooi as regional director for APAC

Abacus Worldwide has recently announced the appointment of Tiat Jin (TJ) Ooi as the APAC regional director, adding a skilled and experienced individual to its leadership team. Ooi brings over 20 years of expertise in association management, international trade, and business operations to the table, making him a valuable asset to the organization.

Based in Singapore, Ooi’s primary role will involve overseeing member engagement in the Asia-Pacific region and providing additional support to member companies in the Middle East and Africa. By leveraging his extensive experience and knowledge, Ooi aims to strengthen relationships with member firms, facilitate collaboration between members, and ensure that they receive the necessary support tailored to the unique regional dynamics.

Furthermore, Ooi will be responsible for managing Abacus Worldwide’s four technical interest groups, which convene quarterly to delve into specialized topics such as tax, law, mergers and acquisitions, and audit. These groups serve as platforms for members to exchange insights and expertise, enhancing their overall experience within the association.

Julio Gabay, President, and CEO of Abacus Worldwide, expressed confidence in Ooi’s ability to drive the association’s growth in the APAC region, citing his hands-on approach to relationship building and extensive background in working with membership-based organizations. Outside of his role at Abacus Worldwide, Ooi also leads Curated Connectors, a consultancy firm that has collaborated with prominent organizations such as the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), the Asian Development Bank, and the Mekong Institute. His work with ERIA involved engaging thousands of regional stakeholders from various sectors to support the launch of the E-S-I Knowledge Lab in 2022, an initiative focused on fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the ecosystem.
