Delta Air Lines agrees to pay nearly $80 million to settle jet fuel dumping lawsuit

Delta Air Lines, a prominent Atlanta-based airline, has recently agreed to a settlement of nearly $80 million in a lawsuit involving the dumping of jet fuel over Los Angeles in 2020. This incident occurred when a Delta flight headed to Shanghai experienced engine troubles and had to dump fuel before returning to Los Angeles International Airport. Subsequently, a group of LA natives and business owners brought about a class-action lawsuit against the airline, represented by X-Law Group in LA, seeking damages. After several years of legal battles, Delta Air Lines decided to settle the case.

As part of the settlement, Delta will pay $78.75 million, with specific allocations including $24 million in fees to the class counsel, $2 million for reimbursing the counsel, $2.1 million for settlement administration costs, and $15,000 for each of the four class plaintiffs. Additionally, $50.6 million will be distributed among the class members. However, it is important to note that while Delta Air Lines agreed to this settlement, they did not admit to any liability regarding the jet fuel dumping incident.
