Semler Scientific Increasing Bitcoin Holdings to 4,636 BTC
Semler Scientific has recently increased its bitcoin holdings by acquiring an additional 187 bitcoins, amounting to roughly $20 million. This acquisition brings the total number of bitcoins held by the company to 4,636 BTC, with a current market value of around $502 million. These purchases took place between June 4 and July 2 at an average price of $106,906 per bitcoin. The funding for these acquisitions came from Semler’s ongoing at-the-market (ATM) stock offerings.
In April, Semler initiated a $500 million stock sale agreement with various financial institutions, including Barclays and Cantor Fitzgerald. As of July 2, the company had already raised $156.6 million through the sale of more than 4.1 million shares.
Since May 2024, Semler has designated bitcoin as its primary treasury asset, marking a strategic shift in its long-term investment strategy. This move has positioned the company as one of the prominent public entities with significant bitcoin holdings. With a cumulative expenditure of approximately $430 million (inclusive of fees), Semler’s average cost per bitcoin stands at $92,753, resulting in an unrealized gain of around $72 million.
To assess the performance of its bitcoin holdings in relation to shareholder dilution, Semler employs a metric known as ‘BTC Yield.’ The company reported a BTC Yield of 29% year-to-date, reflecting an upward trend compared to the previous month’s value of 26.7%. Further strengthening its focus on bitcoin, Semler made key leadership changes, appointing Joe Burnett as the Director of Bitcoin Strategy in June.
Looking ahead, Semler has unveiled ambitious goals for its bitcoin reserves, aiming to reach 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025, 42,000 by 2026, and an impressive 105,000 by 2027. These targets emphasize the company’s commitment to aggressive accumulation and strategic growth within the cryptocurrency space.
Semler’s strategic maneuvering in the realm of bitcoin reflects the broader trend of institutional adoption and integration of digital assets into corporate treasuries. The company’s proactive approach to embracing bitcoin as a primary asset underscores the evolving landscape of financial ventures and highlights the increasing relevance of cryptocurrencies in traditional investment portfolios.
With a clear roadmap outlined for further expansion of its bitcoin reserves and a demonstrated commitment to maximizing shareholder value through strategic bitcoin accumulation, Semler remains at the forefront of companies leveraging digital assets for long-term growth and financial stability.
