April 2025 roundup of mergers and acquisitions in the TPS industry

April was another slow month for business transactions in the dealer, aftermarket, and supplier sectors as the second quarter began. There were only a few acquisitions announced, with the activity evenly distributed across the various channels in a manner akin to March.

One significant acquisition was Thompson Truck Group’s purchase of the Lee-Smith dealer group at the start of the month. John Thompson, the owner, and CEO of Thompson Truck Group expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting that it signaled more than just growth but the union of two organizations committed to exceptional service, career opportunities for employees, and strong relationships with OEM partners.

The month also saw The Service Company, a 2024 TPS Distributor of the Year finalist, expand its operations by acquiring Foster’s Truck and Trailer in Columbus, Ohio. The move increased The Service Company’s presence to five locations, showcasing how partnerships can create lasting value. Ryan Binkley, CEO of Generational Group, praised the transaction, expressing pride in facilitating the deal and anticipating the continued success of both parties.

Epika Fleet Services was another player in the service sector that underwent a sale to Ares Private Equity fund. The company, known for providing outsourced fleet maintenance services and specializing in mobile service, experienced growth and differentiation under Trivest’s partnership. Epika’s CEO, Joe Dougherty, attributed their success to Trivest’s strategic support in expanding the technician network, investing in technology, and improving operations while upholding their commitment to exceptional customer service.

Noteworthy among the acquisitions was Trillium Energy Solutions, a part of the Love’s family of companies, buying 41 CNG stations from U.S. Gain. This move reflects the growing interest in alternative fuel sources, demonstrating the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the energy sector.

Despite the slow pace of business transactions in April, the acquisitions that did take place showcased opportunities for growth, value creation through partnerships, and the importance of strategic support in achieving success. The transactions highlighted the commitment of companies to delivering exceptional service, fostering employee development, enhancing operations, and expanding their reach within their respective sectors.
