OICCI to host first Climate Excellence Awards at 3rd Pakistan Climate Conference

The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OICCI) recently hosted the first-ever Climate Excellence Awards at the conclusion of the 3rd Pakistan Climate Conference. The event spanned two days and brought together key policymakers, climate experts, business leaders, and advocates to discuss and promote sustainable climate action in Pakistan.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah commended the OICCI for addressing the real threat of changing climate dynamics, particularly in light of the massive flooding that occurred in Pakistan in mid-2022. He highlighted the Sindh Government’s efforts, including plans to build 2 million houses for flood victims and other measures aimed at preventing future disasters.

The 3rd Pakistan Climate Conference featured insightful discussions and inputs from global and national experts on sustainability and the environment. In an effort to reduce carbon emissions and improve the overall well-being of the population, various measures and initiatives were discussed.

This year, the conference introduced the OICCI Climate Excellence Awards to recognize and celebrate companies that have made exceptional contributions to climate resilience, sustainability, and green innovation. Winners across six categories were acknowledged for their outstanding commitment to environmental stewardship. The Climate Champion Award went to Nestlé Pakistan Limited, while Unilever Pakistan Limited received the Climate Resilience Award.

Other winners included Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Limited for Water Stewardship & Management Award, and Pepsi-Cola International (Private) Limited for Promoting Circular Economy Award. The Green Finance & Investment Award was presented to Saudi Pak Industrial & Agricultural Investment Co. Ltd.

OICCI Secretary-General M. Abdul Aleem expressed his appreciation to participants, partners, and stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the conference. He emphasized the importance of urgent climate action and the essential role that businesses must play in driving sustainable solutions.
