New Costco in Las Vegas to undergo hearing for development agreement

The development of a new Costco store in Las Vegas is currently under scrutiny by county officials. A public hearing concerning the development agreement between Clark County and Costco Wholesale Corp. is scheduled to take place on February 5th. The proposed location for this massive members-only retail outlet is in the southwest valley along Buffalo Drive, just south of the 215 Beltway. Plans include constructing a 157,633-square-foot building that will house the retail store, along with a gas station and tire center as additional amenities.

County records indicate that in September 2023, the plans for the new Costco were initially approved by the county commissioners. However, certain conditions were put in place, such as the signing of a development agreement before permits could be issued. This agreement ensures that Costco makes a “fair-share contribution” towards the public infrastructure in the area, as stated by county staff. Despite these requirements, the Clark County Building Department granted a commercial grading permit for the Costco site in the previous month.

The property where Costco’s new store will be located is owned by the county, with the land currently being leased to a private entity, which, in turn, is subleasing it to Costco. The chain, which is headquartered in Washington state, did not respond to requests for comments on this matter. Costco is renowned for its bulk sales of various products, ranging from groceries to household essentials. It currently operates five locations within the Las Vegas Valley and boasts nearly 900 warehouses globally, with over 600 in the United States alone.

The potential arrival of a new Costco in Las Vegas has garnered significant attention due to the brand’s strong reputation and popularity among consumers. The public hearing scheduled next month will play a crucial role in determining the future of this development project. For any further inquiries or information regarding this matter, individuals can reach out to county officials for updates and details. As the debate over the development pact continues, the outcome of this discussion will shape the landscape of the retail sector in the southwest valley, offering residents and shoppers a new destination for their bulk shopping needs.
