Illinois news: Cop killer sentenced; cannabis executive charged with insider trading
A Bradley police officer’s murderer was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for the 2021 crime. Darius Sullivan was found guilty last September in the killing of Marlene Rittmanic, the 49-year-old officer. Prosecutors asserted that Sullivan shot Rittmanic and her colleague when they confronted him at his hotel room door regarding a warrant. Rittmanic’s partner sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead and was left with long-term disabilities as a result.
In another legal case, a former cannabis executive, Antony Marsico from Bartlett, is facing charges of insider trading. Marsico allegedly used confidential information acquired through his job to purchase stocks of a competing cannabis company. According to a federal indictment, Marsico obtained undisclosed details about his company’s plans to acquire a rival firm. Prosecutors claimed that he bought over 900,000 shares of stock using this information and later garnered a profit of $607,000 by selling them before news broke that the deal had collapsed.
