Lazard expanding global ETF presence

Lazard Asset Management has recently taken steps to expand its global presence in the ETF market, as evidenced by the filing of paperwork for five active ETFs in the US with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This move marks the firm’s foray into the ETF space, with plans to introduce ETFs covering emerging markets, Japan, international equity, equity megatrends, and next generation technologies.

A spokesperson from Lazard AM expressed the firm’s primary focus on bringing ETFs to the US market in the year 2025. The spokesperson highlighted a deliberate and strategic approach to growing their ETF offerings, with potential plans for expansion into other regions down the line. This indicates a well-thought-out strategy aimed at establishing a strong ETF footing in the US before venturing into other markets.

In line with these efforts, the global head of ETFs at Lazard AM, Rob Forsyth, is expected to oversee the establishment of a dedicated team in the coming year. This team will encompass various roles such as capital markets, fund operations, and marketing, reflecting a comprehensive approach to building out their ETF capabilities. Notably, Forsyth brings valuable experience to this role, having previously served as the global head of ETF strategy at State Street Global Advisors (SSGA).

Lazard AM’s aspirations to cultivate a global ETF presence align with the strategies of other US-based asset managers, such as Janus Henderson. Janus Henderson successfully entered the European ETF market last year by expanding its ’40-Act’ product suite, demonstrating the potential for growth and expansion in the ETF space.

This development signifies Lazard AM’s commitment to establishing a strong foothold in the ETF market, starting with a strategic focus on the US market before expanding into other regions. By leveraging expertise from seasoned professionals like Rob Forsyth and adopting a methodical approach to growth, the firm aims to position itself as a key player in the global ETF landscape in the years to come.
