Microsoft Postpones Exchange Server 2019 Cumulative Update
Microsoft has given Exchange Server administrators a holiday gift by pushing back the final Cumulative Update for Exchange Server 2019 to 2025. This delay comes after a rough November 2024 Security Update that caused issues with transport rules and email flow.
In 2022, Microsoft changed its update cadence to March and September for Cumulative Updates, with potential shifts to April and October or later based on quality control. Due to customer feedback about December release times not being ideal, the final CU for Exchange Server 2019 has now been moved to early January 2025, making it the H1 2025 CU.
Despite this delay, it’s essential to note that Exchange Server 2019 is still set to lose support on October 14, 2025. Microsoft advises users to ensure they have the latest update and plan to upgrade in-place to Exchange Server SE when it becomes available in early H2 of 2025.
For administrators, this means a calm few weeks ahead to close out the year. Microsoft’s message for 2025 is consistent: migrate to Exchange Server 2019, apply the latest update, and prepare for the future Exchange Server SE release. It looks like admins can expect a busy year ahead.
