Wolfire and Dark Catt lawsuit against Valve receives class action status from judge
A US judge recently granted class action status for Wolfire Studios and Dark Catt Studios’ lawsuit against Valve. This means that the antitrust case against Valve is expanding to potentially include many more developers, publishers, and individuals, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. The lawsuit, which was initially filed by Wolfire Studios in April 2021, alleges that Valve engaged in anti-competitive practices, including its 30% revenue sharing agreement.
According to United States District Judge Jamal N. Whitehead, any developers, publishers, or individuals who have paid Valve the 30% commission since January 28th, 2017, are eligible to join the class action lawsuit. Dark Catt Studios also filed a similar lawsuit against Valve in June 2021, and a court order in July 2022 allowed the two cases to be merged into one complaint. This development may have significant implications for the industry as a whole.
