New Jersey Mayor Calls for Investigation Into Prolonged Lawsuit Against Live Nation
ong-standing legal battle between Live Nation and Thomas “Tommy Dorfman” Dorfman has caught the attention of New Jersey Mayor Michele Dale of West Milford. This 13-year lawsuit, which has yet to reach a jury trial, centers on allegations of financial irregularities made by Dorfman, who is known for founding Juice Entertainment and being a successful nightclub promoter in West Milford.
In a bid for justice, Mayor Dale has called on New Jersey’s Attorney General Matt Platkin and Justice Department representative Philip Sellinger to investigate this case. She stated, “I am committed to reaching across party lines to correct this regulatory oversight and to foster a fair, affordable, and competitive live entertainment industry for all consumers and fans, including West Milford residents who deserve fair ticket prices.”
The case was brought to light by the late Congressman Bill Pascrell in a study critical of Live Nation’s business practices, originally filed as part of a lawsuit in 2019. Pascrell labeled Live Nation as engaging in “corrupt and abusive practices” in this suppressed study. The ABC Four Corners investigation further exposed Live Nation’s controversial market manipulations and their influence on the music industry in the country. Reporter Avani Dias led this eye-opening investigation, speaking to insiders and musicians about Live Nation’s dominant role.
Expressing gratitude for Mayor Dale’s support, Dorfman emphasized the importance of fairness, transparency, accountability, and justice in the live entertainment industry. This fight against Live Nation isn’t just Dorfman’s alone; an antitrust lawsuit targeting Live Nation and its subsidiary, Ticketmaster, aims to dismantle their monopoly, stressing anti-competitive practices. Despite the recent political polarization seen post-election, it seems that criticism of Ticketmaster and Live Nation is a bipartisan matter.
Live Nation continues to deny any wrongdoing as legal proceedings unfold, shifting responsibility onto the resale market. The push for fairness in the entertainment industry remains strong, with voices like Mayor Dale’s advocating for a level playing field for all involved.
