Sweden: EQT names Per Franzén as it begins €100 billion fundraising phase
EQT, a powerhouse in the private equity industry, has welcomed Per Franzén as its new CEO and managing partner. Stepping into his new role on May 27, 2025, Franzén takes over from Christian Sinding during a significant fundraising cycle that aims to amass a whopping €100 billion (US$105 billion).
Franzén’s tenure at EQT spans nearly two decades, with his most recent position being head of Private Capital Europe & North America and deputy managing partner. Notably, he spearheaded the successful €22 billion raise for EQT X in 2024, the largest private equity fund closed worldwide. The total assets managed under EQT Private Capital Europe & North America currently stand at €113 billion, making it the largest business unit for EQT.
Christian Sinding, EQT’s outgoing CEO, led the firm through a monumental period of growth, navigating its market capitalization from approximately €7 billion at the time of its 2019 initial public offering to a substantial €40 billion. As Sinding transitions to the role of Institutional Partner, he will oversee the newly established EQT Council, dedicated to bolstering EQT’s partnerships and offering clients the essential guidance for long-term success. Additionally, he will continue to preside over the global investment forum, a platform that facilitates knowledge-sharing and collaboration among EQT’s senior investment professionals across various strategies. Sinding will also retain positions on multiple EQT fund investment committees.
In an industry characterized by constant evolution and strategic moves, EQT’s decision to appoint Franzén reflects their commitment to stewardship and continuity. With his extensive experience and proven track record within the organization, Franzén is poised to lead EQT through its ambitious fundraising cycle and further solidify the firm’s position as a global leader in private equity investments.
The transition at EQT marks a pivotal moment for the firm and the private equity sector at large. As EQT navigates the intricate landscape of fundraising and strategic partnerships, under the leadership of Per Franzén, the firm is well-positioned to continue its trajectory of growth and innovation in the realm of private equity investments.
