Avedzi takes over from Ogbamey Tetteh at Securities and Exchange Commission
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. James Klutse Avedzi as the Acting Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, effective immediately. This decision follows the termination of Rev Alfred Ogbamey Tetteh’s appointment. Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President, issued a letter to Rev Ogbamey Tetteh instructing him to hand over his responsibilities to Dr. Avedzi.
The President expressed his gratitude to Rev Ogbamey Tetteh for his contributions to the nation. The Securities and Exchange Commission was established under the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929) with the main goal of regulating and fostering the growth of an efficient, fair, and transparent securities market that safeguards the interests of investors and upholds market integrity.
Dr. Avedzi, a Ghanaian politician, previously served as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ketu North during the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. He hails from Xipe in the Volta Region of Ghana. Additionally, he pursued higher education at the University of Liverpool, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Finance and Accounting in 2016.
