Putting an end to the weaponization of the federal government
evious administration’s misuse of federal power has raised concerns among the American people. Throughout their term, they weaponized various federal law enforcement agencies and the Intelligence Community against perceived political opponents. This misuse of power manifested in a systematic campaign involving investigations, prosecutions, civil enforcement actions, and other activities that seemed more about political retaliation than upholding justice or serving legitimate governmental objectives. Individuals, including parents protesting at school board meetings and Americans exercising their constitutional rights, were targeted in ways that appeared to violate the Constitution and U.S. laws.
The weaponization of prosecutorial power during the prior administration’s tenure was unprecedented, resembling tactics used in third-world countries. By launching Federal investigations and politically motivated funding revocations, the administration sought to silence dissent and opposition to its policies. These actions had far-reaching consequences, including depriving Americans of critical services. For instance, a person was detained for sharing a political meme, showcasing the extreme measures taken. While more than 1,500 individuals linked to the events of January 6 faced prosecution, most cases against BLM rioters were dropped, fueling concerns of selective justice.
To address these abuses, the current President has issued an executive order aimed at ensuring accountability for the Federal Government’s weaponization against its citizens. This order establishes a process to correct past misconduct related to the misuse of law enforcement and Intelligence Community resources. It underscores the commitment of the United States to rectify infringements on citizens’ rights and hold accountable those responsible for the misuse of federal power.
Under this executive order, the Attorney General and heads of various departments and agencies will review their activities over the last four years. The objective is to identify instances where their actions diverged from the order’s purposes and policies. Through thorough examination and assessment, these officials will submit reports to the President with recommendations for remedial actions to uphold the order’s objectives. Similarly, the Director of National Intelligence and relevant agencies within the Intelligence Community will conduct reviews to identify and address instances of misconduct.
Departments and agencies are directed to comply with document-retention policies and legal obligations as part of corrective measures. Any instances of noncompliance will be addressed by the Attorney General, ensuring adherence to established guidelines. The executive order emphasizes the need to implement these measures consistently with the law while remaining budget-conscious and accountable.
In conclusion, the issued executive order signifies a firm commitment to end the weaponization of the Federal Government against the American people. By promoting accountability, transparency, and adherence to constitutional principles, the current administration aims to restore trust in government institutions and safeguard citizens’ rights and freedoms.
