Riker Danzig announces new co-chair and leadership appointments
The law firm Riker Danzig LLP, located in Morristown, has recently announced some key leadership changes within the organization. One of the notable appointments is Anthony J. (“A.J.”) Borrelli as the new co-chair, alongside Kelly Strange Crawford, who currently holds the same position. Borrelli, a member of Riker Danzig’s Executive Committee since 2021, takes over the co-chair role from Brian E. O’Donnell, who had been sharing the position with Crawford since 2018. O’Donnell will remain on the Executive Committee and will continue to lead the firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance practice.
As the new co-chair, Borrelli will bring his wealth of experience to the role. He currently leads the Securities Litigation, Arbitration, Regulation, and Investigations Practice at Riker Danzig. In this role, Borrelli oversees attorneys in both the New Jersey and New York offices, representing global financial institutions, investment banks, and securities brokerage firms in various business litigation matters. His responsibilities include defending investment-related claims from retail and institutional customers, handling employment disputes unique to the securities industry, managing actions brought by regulators, and conducting internal investigations.
Borrelli has been with Riker Danzig since 2000, initially joining as a summer associate. Over the years, he has received recognition for his legal prowess, being named a “New Leader of the Bar” by the New Jersey Law Journal in 2012 and a “New Jersey Trailblazer” in 2020. Chambers USA also ranked him in Band One for Securities Litigation in 2024. Borrelli holds a law degree from Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. from Boston College.
In response to Borrelli’s appointment as co-chair, Crawford expressed her confidence in his abilities and highlighted his dedication to the firm’s values. She emphasized Borrelli’s instrumental role in the firm’s growth and leadership thus far and looks forward to their collaboration in his new capacity. Borrelli himself expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute more significantly to the firm’s continued success, especially in light of their upcoming move to Giralda Farms in Madison.
In addition to Borrelli’s appointment, Joseph L. Schwartz has been welcomed to the firm’s Executive Committee. Schwartz, who has been with Riker Danzig since 1994, leads the Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Practice, a nationally-recognized division within the firm. He also holds the position of chairman of the New Jersey Turnaround Management Association and serves as a subchapter V trustee in New Jersey bankruptcy cases. Schwartz’s commitment to serving the community is further reflected in his involvement with the Corporate Advisory Council for Homeless Solutions, an organization providing shelter and services to Morris County residents in need.
