IQ Fiber Expands Regional Fiber Market with ThinkBig Networks Acquisition

0

IQ Fiber has recently completed the acquisition of ThinkBig Networks, a fiber internet service provider based in Maryland, to expand its presence in the region.

ThinkBig Networks currently serves customers in several Maryland counties, with plans for further network expansion in progress. This strategic move by IQ Fiber, supported by additional funding from SDC Capital Partners, represents a significant step forward for the company’s ongoing growth initiatives.

Following the acquisition, Dee Anna Sobczak, CEO, and co-founder of ThinkBig Networks, will transition to the role of senior VP of the Chesapeake Region at IQ Fiber. The rebranding of ThinkBig Networks to IQ Fiber in 2025 will facilitate an accelerated network expansion not only in Maryland but also beyond.

IQ Fiber’s cutting-edge fiber network, already operational in North Florida and under development in Savannah, Georgia, is capable of delivering lightning-fast 10 Gbps symmetrical speeds to customers.

Expanding on its success in North Florida, IQ Fiber now covers key areas like Jacksonville, Gainesville, Alachua County (Florida), Savannah (Georgia), and the Chesapeake Bay Region (Maryland). This expansion aligns with the regional trend of consolidation in the fiber broadband market, a trend expected to gather momentum in the coming year.

A recent survey by AlixPartners highlights the potential for significant consolidation in the U.S. fiber market, with over 400 small fiber providers identified as attractive targets for investors or larger companies looking to merge. AlixPartners estimates that out of nearly 1,900 small-scale fiber companies in the U.S., around 400 are prime candidates for mergers and acquisitions.
