Verizon settles Class Action Lawsuit for $2.37

Verizon has recently started distributing payouts as part of a $100 million class action lawsuit settlement aiming to compensate customers affected by undisclosed administrative fees. The lawsuit, filed in 2021, alleged that Verizon misled customers by not disclosing these extra charges in their advertisements, resulting in customers unknowingly paying more than the advertised price for their plans. The settlement process began in 2024, following court approval.

While the settlement amount is substantial, some customers have expressed dissatisfaction with the payouts they have received. Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) saw users sharing amounts as low as $2.37 and $4, prompting some to joke about donating their payments and calling the whole class action process a “waste of time.”

To be eligible for compensation, customers must have been postpaid wireless or data plan users between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023, and incurred administrative or telecom recovery fees. Claims had to be submitted by April 15, 2024, and payments will be issued after final court approval on March 22, 2024.
