Verizon settlement payouts starting to reach claimants, sparking discontent
Verizon Settlement Payouts Begin Reaching Claimants
If you recently received a notification about a payment from Verizon, you might be wondering what it’s all about. Back in January 2024, Verizon agreed to a $100 million settlement in a class action lawsuit. This lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of the State of New Jersey, claimed that U.S. customers who purchased post-paid wireless plans from Verizon were charged hidden administrative fees in a deceptive and unfair manner.
Customers who were charged these fees between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023, were eligible to file a claim in this settlement. Despite the settlement, Verizon maintained its innocence and stated that it had the right to charge and increase these fees.
The deadline to file a claim was April 15, 2024, and as of January 7, 2025, customers who submitted claims have started receiving their settlement payouts. However, many are finding that their payouts are smaller than expected.
Customers have taken to social media to share their reactions to the payouts. Some have described the amounts as disappointingly small, with one user even calling it a “tiny drop of money in the account.”
While Verizon has not made a statement regarding the payments, the settlement website explains that the payouts can vary based on how long you were a Verizon subscriber and how many valid claims were filed. The initial minimum amount is $15, with an additional $1 for each month you were charged the fees.
If you filed a valid claim and have not yet received your payment, don’t worry. Payments are anticipated to be distributed in early January 2025. So, keep an eye on your account for any incoming funds.
