Paresh Ganatra from Scam 1992 Loses ₹75000 to Real Harshad Mehta

He disclosed that he lost ₹75,000 to the real Harshad Mehta during the 1992 securities scam. Ganatra, in a podcast interview, revealed that at the time, he was earning a monthly salary of ₹5000 and had saved up a significant amount of ₹75,000, which he lost during the scam.

Despite the role being initially considered small by the director, Hansal Mehta, Ganatra insisted on portraying the character based on RK Damani, the owner of D Mart. Ganatra’s personal experience of losing money to the scam encouraged him to take on the role.

Harshad Shantilal Mehta, a notable Indian stockbroker, was involved in the 1992 securities scam that shook the Indian stock market. His manipulative practices in the market led to his conviction. He passed away at the age of 47 due to a heart attack in 2001.
