Broadcom has exciting news on the horizon for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) with a major release planned for March. The company has allocated a hefty $2.9 billion for research and development for this release. Following this big launch, a smaller release with $750 million in R&D is expected in July.

This information was disclosed in a Form 10-K filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as reported by The Register. The goal for the March release is to create an experience akin to the “AWS of on-premises” with VCF 9.

With Broadcom taking over VMware in November 2023 and focusing on VMware Cloud Foundation and VMware vSphere Foundation, the community is curious about what these platforms will deliver. The aim is to simplify and streamline VMware’s offerings, addressing the complexity of previous solutions.

As VCF 9 approaches, customers and analysts are eager to see what changes Broadcom will introduce. While some users may explore alternatives like Nutanix, leaving VMware behind is not always straightforward. Broadcom promises cost savings for users who previously used multiple VMware components with the consolidation into one license, but convincing users of the value remains a challenge.

The impending release of VCF 9 will be a significant moment for Broadcom and VMware customers alike, potentially reshaping the landscape of enterprise software solutions. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
