Security Deposit Class-Action Lawsuit Against MG Properties Settles for Almost $10 Million
A recent settlement in a class-action lawsuit over security deposits at apartments managed by MG Properties has caught the attention of tenants and legal experts alike. The settlement, valued at nearly $10 million, will impact approximately 60,000 individuals who resided in MG Properties’ apartments.
Among those affected is Rachel Whillier, a former tenant of the Preserve at Melrose apartments in Vista. Whillier shared her experience, recounting her move-in and move-out process. She highlighted her efforts to ensure she followed all guidelines regarding her security deposit, expressing her surprise at additional charges she faced upon vacating the apartment.
The plaintiffs’ attorney, Jimmie Parker, described the settlement as the result of a challenging legal battle. The negotiation process, involving a retired federal judge, led to the significant settlement amount. In response to inquiries, attorneys representing MG Properties, also known as Gleiberman Properties, maintained their denial of any wrongdoing and emphasized their commitment to lawful practices.
Despite the ongoing dispute, tenants impacted by the settlement have until January 10 to submit their claims. This settlement signals the conclusion of a lengthy legal process and aims to allow MG Properties to shift focus back to providing quality housing and management services to residents.
