Apple to settle Siri privacy lawsuit with $95 million payment
Apple has agreed to pay $95 million in cash to settle a proposed class action lawsuit alleging that its voice-activated Siri assistant violated users’ privacy. The settlement, which still requires court approval, stems from accusations that Apple shared users’ spoken commands with third parties without their consent.
If approved, the settlement will result in payouts to eligible users who used Siri on an iPhone or iPad between April 11, 2011, and February 2, 2022. Users may be eligible to receive up to $25 per device, depending on the number of valid claims filed.
Apple has denied any wrongdoing in this case but has chosen to settle to avoid further litigation costs. The company has also agreed to enhance its privacy disclosures regarding Siri and how it handles user data.
