Macy’s Store Closings 2024: Updates on Yearly Closures
you heard the news? Macy’s is closing 65 stores in 2024. According to their latest quarterly earnings report, this is part of their plan to shutter 150 stores by 2026. The decision was made during the second-quarter earnings call on Aug. 21. It seems that changing customer preferences in shopping, paired with an uncertain economy, played a role in Macy’s identifying underperforming stores in their lineup.
But don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom for Macy’s. The department store chain is redirecting resources from the closing stores to more profitable locations and their luxury stores like Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury. Though they didn’t specify which of the 65 locations will be closing this year, it’s good to know that there are still 521 Macy’s stores currently open.
